TYPE 2 DIABETESÂ

Diabetes generally is a group of metabolic disorders that is characterized by hight blood sugar levels which can lead to different complications if it is left unmanaged. It is the fastest growing chronic condition worldwide. There are three major types of diabetes which are the Type 1 diabetes, Type 2 diabetes and the Gestational diabetes. The type 1 diabetes is an autoimmune disease in which the body attacks and destroys the cell in the pancreas (a vital organ that produces insulin in the body). The type 2 diabetes which is the most common type type of diabetes is also a chronic health condition that affects how the body regulates and uses sugar (glucose) as a fuel.

Type 2 diabetes is caused by the combination of two main factors which is the defective secretion of insulin and the inability of insulin sensitive tissues to respond to insulin. It accounts for approximately 90% of all diabetes cases in the world and it is linked to various factors such as unhealthy diets, obesity, family history, Age, sedentary lifestyle and the likes.

The symptoms of Type 2 diabetes include fatigue, blurry vision, increased thirst and frequent urination, slow wound healing and in some chronic cases it can lead to stroke, blindness, amputation, coronary heart attack and even kidney failure. Type 2 diabetes can be managed through various means but the interventions through diet control and quality has been demonstrated to be an effective way of controlling it and also monitoring the blood sugar levels and adjusting treatment as needed.

Nutrition plays a very important role in managing this type of diabetes and this includes adopting healthy dietary lifestyle such as physical activity levels and calorie intake which can influence metabolic outcomes. Dietary fibers also play an important role in managing type 2 diabetes.
